Eramelinda Boquer: 2019 ACTRA Montreal Woman of the Year

To mark International Women’s Day on March 8th, the Montreal branch of ACTRA is proud to recognize the artistic and advocacy achievements of Eramelinda Boquer, naming her the 2019 ACTRA Montreal Woman of the Year.

Eramelinda has always been energized by community involvement and fueled by creative expression in her professional and personal life. She has used volunteer work as a powerful way to overcome negativity and find hope, strength and energy through positive action.

Profoundly influenced by the performing arts from a young age, Eramelinda was accepted into Ottawa’s prestigious National Arts Center Student Young Company. The plan was to go on to theatre school, but when the Moscow Circus came to town, at the age of 19, she left everything behind to literally run away with the circus.

Upon returning from the tour, Eramelinda was interviewed by CBC radio, which would ultimately lead to her own broadcasting career – a career that is still going strong today.

Eramelinda’s television experience includes Canada’s Weather Network, CTV, Global and the CBC. During her years in radio she has worked as a reporter on CFGO and CBC Ottawa. In Montreal, she has DJ’d on CHOM, was part of the “James Gang” on 990 Hits, did traffic for Virgin Radio and was co-host on the popular nighttime “Al and Era” CJAD 800 talk show with Al Gravelle. She is currently the weather specialist on the Andrew Carter CJAD morning show.

She has acted in film and television, commercials, documentaries, and animated series. In 2015, Eramelinda became the Communications Consultant and Performance Coach for BDH Collective, whose clients have included BeaverTails, Baton Rouge, and Champlain Regional College in St. Lambert.

As a social activist, Era has advocated for many community organizations, including The Freedom From Poverty Foundation, Dreams Take Flight, and the Shield of Athena. Her work with the Shield earned her the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. She was also awarded the “Woman of Merit” Award from Montreal’s Playmas Cultural Organization.

Always open to new career challenges, Eramelinda keeps her sights set on new vistas, ready to embrace the undiscovered.

The mandate of the ACTRA Montreal Women’s Committee includes exploring the concerns of female ACTRA members and supporting women within ACTRA and in the audiovisual industry as a whole. Elizabeth Neale and Amber Goldfarb serve as co-Chairs of the Committee. Eramelinda joins past recipients of ACTRA Montreal’s Woman of the Year Erika Rosenbaum, Lucinda Davis, Joanna Noyes, Jeannie Walker, Jacqueline McClintock, Danette Mackay, Felicia Shulman, and Dawn Ford.
