Montreal, QC – Canadian performers are celebrating ACTRA’s 75-year anniversary with ACTRA Montreal hosting an awards gala for performers and industry guests on Saturday, May 5. Don Jordan will be honoured with the 2018 ACTRA Montreal Award of Excellence in recognition of his artistic and advocacy achievements.

“As a performer and community leader, Don Jordan has been deeply committed to building and supporting our Canadian entertainment industry for more than 50 years,” states ACTRA Montreal President, Simon Peacock. “In addition to being a talented artist, Don has opened doors for a generation of diverse performers in Canada. During ACTRA’s 75th anniversary, we unite with praise of Don’s commitment to culture and to all of our ACTRA members.”

Working on both stage and screen, Don is an accomplished actor, singer, dancer and choreographer. In addition to serving as President of ACTRA Montreal (2007-2016), Don was Artistic Director of Black Theatre Workshop, which recently presented him with its prestigious Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Achievement Award. In 2010, the City of Montreal presented Don with the Black History Award for his achievement in the arts. Don joins the list of past ACTRA Montreal Award of Excellence recipients William Shatner, Dick Irvin, Jay Baruchel, Ellen David and Walter Massey.

This special #ACTRA75 Montreal Awards gala will celebrate accomplishment and excellence in our industry, with additional awards to be presented to: Sarah Booth, the inaugural Walter Massey Award for Breakthrough Artist recipient; Montreal producer Irene Litinsky, the Community Builder Award; and Erika Rosenbaum, the ACTRA Montreal Woman of the Year Award in recognition of her courageous outspoken activism in the #metoo movement.

The gala event will be co-hosted by Eleanor Noble and Simon Peacock, with a special live performance by 2008 ACTRA Montreal Award of Excellence recipient, Ranee Lee.
