ACTRA National Women’s Committee Video

CALL TO: CANADIAN FEMALE WRITERS TO PITCH ACTRA NATIONAL WOMEN’S COMMITTEE:
A VIDEO SCRIPT

Deadline: Tuesday January 25, 2015, Midnight, anywhere in Canada.

If you are interested and wish more information, please email: hallin@actratoronto.com
Contracted under the Union Advocacy Production Agreement: this is low budget project will have a writing honourarium. And shall cover script production from first draft to final. The ACTRA National Women’s Committee will hold all rights to the script.

PREAMBLE: ACTRA is seeking to further its work in companionship with the TAWC Video “Get Women Working” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmsJ_vTGhEk and the ongoing work from the CUES committee as reported in June, 2012 http://cueonscreen.ca/ To that end, we are in the early stages of development with producing a short 3-7 minute film for internet distribution. To be clear we wish to activate, improve and expand the representations of women on both sides of the lens. And with the video, to reach out to audiences hungry to see themselves/ourselves and our world reflected back to us.

THE TONE: showcasing the need for active improvement regarding the imbalance of women working in all walks of our industry in front and behind the camera; should break the formulaic representations of women; should offer both facts and story; should offer actions that can make a difference; should make it relevant to audiences beyond women, and all with a great comedic flare.

Some key points to include/address:
* The hunger to see real women’s lives reflected back to ourselves
* It must be inclusive: gender; ageism; cultural and physical diversity; etc.
* Use of stats: facts are hard to disavow and are a wake-up opportunity
* Importance of inspiring the role models through this video
* Inspiring female characters based on real life and expanding out from the stereotypical female role models that currently dominate traditional film & TV
* Maintaining an attitude of hope, action, productivity and inspiration
* A sense of humour is essential
* Audience should feel called to action, inspiring critical thinking and conscious consumerism

YOUR PITCH should include: a premise/concept in a one pager, and a treatment script.
Short listed submissions, will receive an interview scheduled in the latter half of January.
